I love archeology and this piece is made using a 4000 year old cylinder seal, from the Phillistine people. I am using a museum replica of the original artifact to create this in piece.
It is made with pure fine silver, which is 99.9% pure, and I’ve oxidized it slightly to show the detail. It does not need cleaning, but maybe a little soap and water occasionally to remove oils. Do not use a polishing cloth unless you want to remove the intentional oxidation.
What is a cylinder seal?
A cylinder seal is an ancient artifact that had been originally used to document trades, kind of like an ancient receipt! People couldn’t all read and write then, so they would wear a little round stone seal on a leather cord, around their neck, and when a trade was made, they would take the seal and roll it into wet clay. The clay imprint would be fired in a kiln of some type and it would in effect, provide documentation of a trade.
The imagery on this seal is depicting the Phillistine people, symbolized by the bird image. They were known for wearing feathered headdresses and sailed from an unknown land and settled in the land of Canaan.
